Privacy

1. Introduction

1.1 Scouta respects and upholds your rights to privacy protection under the National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and any similar State or Territory legislation applicable to Scouta’s operations.

1.2 This policy describes how Scouta manages any personal information it has about you.

2. What personal information about me does Scouta hold?

2.1 Scouta may hold the following information about you:
(1)name, address, telephone number

(2)date of birth

(3)email address

(4)occupation

(5)transaction details associated with your purchases from activity on Scouta

(6)any additional information provided to Scouta

(7)any information you provided to Scouta through customer surveys

2.2 When you visit Scouta’s website, its web server makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes:
(1)your server address (which does not include your email address unless you specifically provide it to Scouta)

(2)your top level domain name (for example .com, .gov, .au, .uk)

(3)the date and time of your visit to the site

(4)the pages you accessed and documents downloaded

(5)the previous site you have visited

(6)the type of browser you are using.

2.3 Scouta does not collect sensitive information from you or about you. “Sensitive information” includes government identifiers (such as your Medicare number, any government assigned pension numbers or health care card numbers), your racial or ethnic origin or your political affiliations amongst other things. Where Scouta inadvertently obtains such information about you, it will take all reasonable steps to try and ensure this information is deleted.

2.4 If at any time you provide the personal information of another person to Scouta then you must ensure that that person has read and understood this policy and separately consents to that personal information being used and disclosed by Scouta for the purposes described below.

3. What does Scouta do with my personal information?

3.1 Scouta uses personal information about you:
(1)to assist in providing goods and services to you

(2)to assist with any enquiries you make with Scouta

(3)for any purpose made known to you at the time of collection of your personal information

(4)to communicate promotional offers and special events

(5)for Scouta’s internal administrative, marketing, planning, product development and research requirements

(6)in an aggregated fashion with partners and advertisers, which is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.

3.2 At any time you may opt out of receiving any communications that you receive as a result of Scouta holding your personal information (other than as required for the operation of Scouta’s business, eg regarding payment of your account).

3.3 Scouta will not disclose personal information about you other than for a purpose specified above or that you would reasonably expect or a purpose required, authorised or permitted by or under any law or a purpose otherwise authorised by you. Scouta may disclose your personal information to other organisations where such disclosure is for purposes related to your reasons for providing Scouta with your personal information. Where appropriate, these disclosures are subject to privacy and confidentiality protections. Scouta may share aggregated information with its partners and advertisers however this does not include any personal information that could identify you or any individual person.

3.4 Scouta will take reasonable measures to ensure that all personal information is held in a secure fashion and protected from unauthorised access or disclosure.

4. Openness

4.1 You may request access to personal information Scouta holds about you by writing to Scouta’s Privacy Officer at the address below. Where Scouta holds information that you are entitled to access, it will endeavour to provide you with a suitable range of choices as to how you access it (eg emailing or mailing it to you).

4.2 If you believe that personal information Scouta holds about you is incorrect, incomplete or inaccurate, then you may request amendment of it. Scouta will consider if the information requires amendment. If Scouta does not agree that there are grounds for amendment, then it will add a note to the personal information stating that you disagree with it.

4.3 Any questions about this policy, or any complaint regarding treatment of your privacy by Scouta, should also be made in writing to:

5. Miscellaneous

5.1 In this policy “personal information” has the same meaning as under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). References to “Scouta” are to Recommendation Ventures Pty Ltd (ACN 121 562 794), which has issued this policy.

5.2 This policy represents Scouta’s policy as at January 2, 2007. Scouta may change this policy from time to time. Although it intends to observe this policy at all times, it is not legally binding on Scouta in any way. From time to time Scouta may regard it as necessary or desirable to act outside the policy. Scouta may do so, subject only to any other applicable contractual rights you have and any statutory rights you have under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) or other applicable legislation.
